WHY THIS PARTY NAME?
Democratic-RepublicanThe Democratic Party is often called "the party of Jefferson," while the modern Republican Party is often called "the party of Lincoln."
DemocraticThe Democratic-Republican party split into various factions during the 1824 election, based more on personality than on ideology. When the election was thrown to the House of Representatives, House Speaker Henry Clay backed Secretary of State John Quincy Adams to deny the presidency to Senator Andrew Jackson, a longtime personal rival and a hero of the War of 1812. Jackson's political views were unknown at the time. At first, the various factions continued to view themselves as Republicans. Jackson's supporters were called "Jackson Men," while Adams supporters were called "Adams Men."
The Jacksonians held their first national convention as the "Republican Party" in 1832.[41] By the mid-1830s, they referred to themselves as the "Democratic Party," although they also continued to use the name "Democratic Republicans" and the name was not officially changed until 1844.[42]
Many politicians of the Democratic Party have emphasized their party's lineage to Jefferson and the Democratic-Republican Party. Martin Van Buren wrote in his Inquiry Into the Origin and Course of Political Parties in the United States that the party's name had changed from Republican to Democratic and that Jefferson was the founder of the party.[43] Thomas Jefferson Randolph, the eldest grandson of Jefferson, gave a speech at the 1872 Democratic National Convention and said that he had spent eighty years of his life in the Democratic-Republican Party.[44]
The Adams/Clay alliance became the basis of the National Republican Party, a rival to the Jacksonian party. This party favored a higher tariff to protect U.S. manufacturers, as well as public works, especially roads. Former members of the defunct Federalist Party (including Daniel Webster) joined the party. After Clay's defeat by Jackson in the 1832 presidential election, the National Republicans were absorbed into the Whig Party, a diverse group of Jackson opponents. Taking a leaf from the Jacksonians, the Whigs tended to nominate non-ideological war heroes as their presidential candidates.
In 1991 the United States Senate passed by voice vote "A bill to establish a commission to commemorate the bicentennial of the establishment of the Democratic Party of the United States." It was introduced by Democratic Senator Terry Sanford and cosponsored by 56 Senators.[46]
The Jefferson Republican Party claims to be the modern party closest in ideology to the Democratic-Republican Party and bases its platform on the writings of Jefferson. Several other parties, including the Libertarian Party and the Constitution Party, also lay claim to his heritage.
RepublicanThe modern Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party. Most northern Whigs soon defected to the new party. The name was chosen to harken back to Jeffersonian ideals of liberty and equality, ideals that Abraham Lincoln and many members of the new party sought to revive together with Clay's program of using an active government to modernize the economy.[45]
The name of the party evolved over time. Party members in the 1790s called themselves "Republicans" and voted for what they called the "Republican Party," "republican ticket," or the "republican interest"; occasionally other names were used.[20] Both "Federalist" and "Republican" were positive terms in the 1790s, and both parties sometimes claimed the terms; so Republicans occasionally called themselves "Federalist" and "Federalist Republicans."[21]
The term "Republican" emphasizes devotion to the ideals of republicanism. The word "republican" was used by most Americans in the late 18th century to describe the new nation's political values, especially its devotion to opposition to corruption, elitism, and monarchies;[22] Jefferson used the term "republican party," meaning those in Congress who were his allies, and supported the existing republican Constitution, in a letter to Washington as early as May 1792.[23] From 1794 through 1823, Jefferson and Madison routinely used the term "republican" and the "Republican party."[24][25][26][27][28]
In pre-existing usage, "party," where it did not have the overt negative sense of "faction," often meant a loose coalition or collective political influence; the Democratic-Republicans included some personal or single-issue state organizations, like the Clintonians of New York or the "correspondents" of Pennsylvania. They continued to be sometimes referred to by personal names; not merely Jefferson, but also Madison (perhaps more frequently), William Branch Giles, and Charles Pinckney.[29]
Their Federalist opponents often called them "Democrats" or "Jacobins" as an insult, referring to mob rule or to The Terror stage of the French Revolution, although "democrat" and "republican" had been used almost equivalently in 1792-3 (and, for the political philosophy, earlier.)[30] A Democratic society cited a dictionary to argue they were the same in 1794.[31] In 1798 former President George Washington wrote, "You could as soon scrub the blackamore white, as to change the principles of a profest Democrat; and that he will leave nothing unattempted to overturn the Government of this Country."[32] Equally, the Republicans called the Federalist opponents "aristocrats," "monarchists," and "monocrats," decrying Hamilton's (prior) openly professed adoration of Britain and the British governing structure.[33] After 1802, some local organizations slowly began merging "Democratic" into their own name and became known as the "Democratic Republicans."[34] In 1811, Hezekiah Niles used "Democratic Republican" routinely in the Niles' Register.[35] Some members of the Party were even referring to themselves as Democrats by 1812.[36]
Gammon (1922) claimed, "Party nomenclature began to take distinctive shape, locally at least, during the campaign of 1824. At the beginning of that contest the one party name in existence was 'Republican.'"[37] The term "National Republican" was first applied to the Adams-Clay faction in New York during the latter stages of the campaign of 1824. In New York state politics, the name "Democratic" was revived in 1824. In 1818, there had been a split in the New York Democratic-Republican Party, with DeWitt Clinton leading one faction and Martin Van Buren the other. The latter faction was dubbed by its enemies the "Bucktails," and about the same time began to refer to itself as the "Democratic" party. The term "Republican," however, was still used to indicate both "Bucktails" and Clintonians.
James Wilson used "democratical", "monarchial" and "despotic" in one speech the Pennsylvania ratifying Convention in 1787, as names for Montesquieu's three kinds of government, whose virtues were combined in the mixed government of the Constitution.[38] According to American lexicographer (and Federalist), Noah Webster, the choice of the name was "…a powerful instrument in the process of making proselytes to the party. The influence of names on the mass of mankind, was never more distinctly exhibited, than in the increase of the democratic party in the United States. The popularity of the denomination of the republican party, was more than a match for the popularity of Washington's character and services, and contributed to overthrow his administration."[39]
A related grass roots movement, the Democratic-Republican Societies arose in 1793–94; the use of "democratic" was supported by the French minister, Citizen Genet, a Girondin. It was not formally affiliated with the new party; though some local Jeffersonian republican leaders were also leaders of the societies. There were some three dozen of these societies; they did not nominate tickets or attempt to control legislatures, as the Republicans did.[40] The Federalists soon denounced the Democratic-Republican Societies.
Organizational Strategy of the First
Democratic-Republican
PartyThe new party invented some of the campaign and organizational techniques that were later adopted by the Federalists and became standard American practice. It was especially effective in building a network of newspapers in major cities to broadcast its statements and editorialize its policies. Fisher Ames, a leading Federalist, used the term "Jacobin" to link members of Jefferson's party to the radicals of the French Revolution. He blamed the newspapers for electing Jefferson; they were, he wrote, "an overmatch for any Government…. The Jacobins owe their triumph to the unceasing use of this engine; not so much to skill in use of it as by repetition."[11]
As one historian explained, "It was the good fortune of the Republicans to have within their ranks a number of highly gifted political manipulators and propagandists. Some of them had the ability… to not only see and analyze the problem at hand but to present it in a succinct fashion; in short, to fabricate the apt phrase, to coin the compelling slogan and appeal to the electorate on any given issue in language it could understand." Outstanding propagandists included editor William Duane and party leaders Albert Gallatin, Thomas Cooper and Jefferson himself.[12]
Just as important was effective party organization of the sort that John J. Beckley pioneered. In 1796, he managed the Jefferson campaign in Pennsylvania, blanketing the state with agents who passed out 30,000 hand-written tickets, naming all 15 electors (printed tickets were not allowed). He told one agent, "In a few days a select republican friend from the City will call upon you with a parcel of tickets to be distributed in your County. Any assistance and advice you can furnish him with, as to suitable districts & characters, will I am sure be rendered." Beckley was the first American professional campaign manager, and his techniques were quickly adopted in other states.[13]
The emergence of the new organizational strategies can be seen in the politics of Connecticut around 1806, which have been well-documented by Cunningham. The Federalists dominated Connecticut, so the Democratic-Republicans had to work harder to win. In 1806, the state leadership sent town leaders instructions for the forthcoming elections. Every town manager was told by state leaders "to appoint a district manager in each district or section of his town, obtaining from each an assurance that he will faithfully do his duty." Then the town manager was instructed to compile lists and total the number of taxpayers and the number of eligible voters, find out how many favored the Democratic-Republicans and how many the Federalists, and to count the number of supporters of each party who were not eligible to vote but who might qualify (by age or taxes) at the next election. These highly detailed returns were to be sent to the county manager and in turn were compiled and sent to the state manager. Using these lists of potential voters, the managers were told to get all eligible people to town meetings and help the young men qualify to vote. The state manager was responsible for supplying party newspapers to each town for distribution by town and district managers.[14] This highly coordinated "get-out-the-vote" drive would be familiar to modern political campaigners, but was the first of its kind in world history.
A RUSH TO DICTATORSHIP THROUGH THE RUSE OF FIGHTING TERROR ON OUR SOIL:
BUSH AND ASHCROFT ARE LEADING THE WAY Congress is apparently about to give the Bush Administration the sweeping dictatorial powers for which it is seeking. The thinking person will realize that most of these measures will prove useless in fighting terror, but very useful in controlling "dissidents" and persons the government deems troublesome.
In a news brief, "Antiterrorism legislation triggers debate among experts", by Tracy Breton, a Journal Staff Writer, said in the Providence Journal Bulletin, on October 17, 2001:
"... Marc Rotenberg, director of the Washington-based Electronic Privacy Information Center, says the antiterrorist legislation that is being considered by Congress is fraught with problems and erases important legal safeguards. 'The current federal law on electronic surveillance creates a whole series of safeguards -- probable cause, surveillance for a definite time frame, public reporting, judicial oversight ... The key behind the safeguards is the recognition that electronic surveillance, because it's covert, is subject to enormous abuse. And what Congress is doing is ratcheting down every one of these safeguards that currently exist is federal wiretap law'."

The Democratic-Republican PartyThe Democratic-Republican Party was founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison in 1792. It became the dominant political party until the 1820s, when it split into competing factions, one of which became the modern-day Democratic Party. Its members identified the party as the Republicans, Jeffersonians, Democrats,[1] or combinations of these (Jeffersonian republicans, etc.).[2] Jefferson and Madison created the party in order to oppose the economic and foreign policies of the Federalists, a party created a year or so earlier by Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton. Foreign policy issues were central; the party opposed the Jay Treaty of 1794 with Britain (then at war with France) and supported good relations with France before 1801. The party insisted on a strict construction of the Constitution, and denounced many of Hamilton's proposals (especially the national bank) as unconstitutional. The party promoted states' rights and the primacy of the yeoman farmer over bankers, industrialists, merchants, and other monied interests. From 1792 to 1816 the party opposed such Federalist policies as high tariffs, a navy, military spending, a national debt, and a national bank. After the military defeats of the War of 1812, however, the party split on these issues. Many younger party leaders, notably Henry Clay, John Quincy Adams and John C. Calhoun, became nationalists and wanted to build a strong national defense.[3] Meanwhile, the "Old Republican" faction led by John Randolph of Roanoke, William H. Crawford and Nathaniel Macon continued to oppose these policies. By 1828, the Old Republicans were supporting Andrew Jackson against Clay and Adams. The party's elected presidents were Thomas Jefferson (1800 and 1804), James Madison (1808 and 1812), and James Monroe (1816 and 1820). The party soon dominated Congress and most state governments outside of New England. By 1820, the Federalists were no longer acting as a national party; there was little to hold the Democratic-Republican Party together. William H. Crawford in 1824 was the last nominee by the Congressional nominating caucus; but the majority of the party boycotted the caucus. John Quincy Adams finished first in the Electoral College, but had no majority; Andrew Jackson, William Crawford, and Henry Clay followed in that order; after which Clay and his friends (since Clay was no longer eligible) supported Adams. The first three factions acted as effectively separate parties after the election; the Jacksonians became the basis of the present Democratic Party; the National Republicans were absorbed into the Whig coalition which broke up before the American Civil War. FoundingMadison started the party among Congressmen in Philadelphia (the national capital) as the Republican party [4]; then he, Jefferson, and others reached out to include state and local leaders around the country, especially New York and the South.[5] The precise date of founding is disputed, but 1792 is a reasonable estimate; some time in the early 1790s is certain. The new party set up newspapers that made withering critiques of Hamiltonianism, extolled the yeomen farmer, argued for strict construction of the Constitution, supported neutral relations with European powers, and called for stronger state governments than the Federalist Party was proposing.[6] The Democratic-Republican Party in Congress in 1792Historians have used statistical techniques to estimate the party breakdown in Congress. Albert Gallatin recalled only two caucuses on legislative policy between 1795 and 1801, one over appropriations for Jay's Treaty, the other over the Quasi-War, and in neither case did the party decide to vote unanimously.[10] Party Presidents and CandidatesThe following United States Presidents were elected following a process that selected them as a national nominee of the Democratic-Republican party: Thomas Jefferson (1801–1809) James Madison (1809–1817) James Monroe (1817–1825) In addition, John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson identified themselves and their administrations as Democratic-Republican, but ran in elections where opponents were also identified as Democratic-Republican.

However, under the pre-12th Amendment election rules, Jefferson won the Vice Presidency due to dissension among Federalist electors. (b) Jefferson and Burr received the same total of electoral votes. Jefferson was subsequently chosen as president by the House of Representatives. (c) Crawford and Gallatin were nominated by a small group of their Congressional supporters, which called itself the Democratic members of Congress.[47] Gallatin later withdrew from the contest. Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams, and Henry Clay also ran as Republicans, although they were not nominated by a national body. While Jackson won a plurality in the electoral college and popular vote, he did not win the constitutionally required majority of electoral votes to be elected president. The contest was thrown to the House of Representatives, where Adams won with Clay's support. The electoral college chose John C. Calhoun for vice president.

Consists of the following: First: "... It permits the government to conduct searches under a standard lower than probable cause. Judicial oversight is reduced, and under the proposed legislation, law enforcement can use subpoenas to gain access to electronic business records ... without first getting judicial permission." and

These kinds of powers are exactly the kind that Communist governments employ. Even though the technology today is far different than during the days of the bad old Russian Communist KGB, the informational data obtained on the average citizen is exactly the same. Thus, under the guise of fighting terrorism, the Bush Administration -- with Attorney General Ashcroft as the point man -- is seeking the kind of intrusive information gathering on average citizens that the KGB has always gathered!
What we have here is a dictatorship in the making. And Americans are allowing it to happen because of several factors: 1. We are panicking because of the Anthrax scare, coupled with verbal threats of terrorists using Weapons of Mass Destruction, i.e., Chemical, Biological, and Nuclear. Too many Americans are willing to part with some of our freedoms in exchange for more security, forgetting what Ben Franklin said over 200 years ago: "Those who would give up freedoms for security deserve neither freedom nor security."
2. The American public school system has been systematically dumbed down for the past 70 years. We are at the point the Illuminist educator, C.F. Potts said we should be at in a book he wrote in 1930 entitled, "Toward A New Humanism". Potts said, that if the Illuminati wanted to achieve the New World Order, it must get control of the American public school system. Potts lamented the fact that schools in 1930 were graduating students who read too well, thought matters through too thoroughly, and inherently distrusted Big Government. This kind of citizen would not assent to being steamrolled into accepting dictatorship under any circumstances. This kind of citizen would prove to be a fatal stumbling block to the implementation of the New World Order. And
3. Today, 70 years later, we have the kind of citizen Potts envisioned. Today's citizen has been taught that man is inherently good, and that Big Government men are inherently good and can be trusted. Too many citizens look first to Big Government to solve their problems, not to themselves.
Lessons from HistoryToo many citizens have never been taught true history, so they have no idea the historical parallels between what is happening to us now and what gradual changes Hitler made in German society from 1933-1939. Hitler wanted Germans to be gradually persuaded into accepting dictatorship by the combined pressure of the controlled conflict within that society and by the beautiful, wonderful rhetoric pouring from the lips of Adolf. Why, Adolf professed great concern for the German people, and for the children. He also conducted photo opportunities with children, with workers in factories, and in schools. But, all the while, he was planning to enslave the Germans, but do so in such a manner that they would thank him for taking away their rights and liberties.
American citizens do not inherently distrust both Big Government and Mass Media. These type citizens believe every word that proceeds from these two institutions. Citizens today do not read widely, nor with discernment. Therefore, they are succumbing to the lies and the scripted scenario pouring forth from these two institutions.

YES, THERE IS A WAY OUT! THAT WAY OUT IS THE ONLY OPTION FOR AMERICA AND THE WORLD TODAY. EVEN NOW, THERE IS AN OMITTED POSSIBILITY THAT HAS BEEN FOR CENTURIES. THIS IS CALLED "UNITISM". UNITISM, IS A POLITICAL AND ECONOMICAL DOCTRINE WITH RIGHTEOUS AND BALANCED PRINCIPLES, WHICH IT HAS BEEN DRAFTED WITH THE ONLY PURPOSE TO MAKE OF THIS WORLD A UNITED SOCIETY. What is Unitism? UNITISM consists of the following:
I . It is the unity of the good of all principles, and the choosing of the best from the Doctrines of all the Economical Systems of this world, in one and new Human and Social Doctrine. We adapt from the good of all ideology movements, either from the right or from the left wing, but without extremism from either side. This is known as The Ecclectical Theory of Marcus Tulius Cicero. Thus, UNITISM, as a Universal Doctrine, replaces both doctrines who were dividing the World, such as Capitalism and Socialism. The foundations of Unitism as a doctrine are: GOD, PEOPLE and EQUALITY.
II . It is, freedom and the liberation from: Exploitation, inequality, social margination, racism against the native indian, the Latino, the Hispanic, the Negroe, and against any race including against the white race. It is the liberation from the accumulation of power among the privileged ones.
III . It is the reorganization of the New Order of the economical principles from our society, into a UNITED SOCIETY. A United Society, is the reality of the New Millenium coming soon. On this issue, Unitism, believes in, THE PURITY OF POLITICS AS A SCIENCE OF GOVERNING, AND IN THE AUTHENTIC AND REAL DEMOCRACY, WHICH IS, "THEOCRACY" (THE GOVERNMENT OF GOD.) THE DESTRUCTION OF A GREAT CIVILIZATION Democracy and Liberty has no price, nor can be conditioned! What has happened in America today since December 12, 2000 until September 11, 2001 with the election of our new Leaders and governors had changed our way of life and our Constitutional System on how to choose our Presidents. Our Constitution was a document inspired by God given through our Founding Fathers. October 14, 2001 From the Rocky Mountains, at the dawn of a New Era, Sunday the Fourteenth of October, year Two Thousand and One, a historical event took place, which is The Rise of a new, human, political and economical Doctrine. This is called "UNITISM." The author of this ideology was Fred E. Desposorio.
The Manifesto took place in Provo, Utah on the twefth of October of Two Thousand One to claim against the ideologies which will threaten our Constitutional and Democratic life, whether they come from the far right wing or from the far left wing, or whether they are a terror of the people or a terror of the State, both are the same.
Desposorio believes that Imperial Control and political intervention from the world power countries has just begun since September 11, 2001, and thereafter a new Millenium, and a new Unionist Era begins as well. The United movement claims that the suffering people through out this world and the poor nations would not tolerate any more intimidations threats from the leaders who holds power and exercise it in unrighteous dominion, whether they come from the Western business world, known as the Capitalists of the Free Revolution, or from the Eastern socialist world, named as the Communists of the Chinese Revolution or from the emerging Russia. Neither we would be terrified from the worldwide terrorism or from any other terror of the people, and not least from the wrong war declaration from any pretended worldwide leader or from any terrorist leader.
Thus, the Founder of the UNITED Movement has pronounced this Manifesto and expressed that this declaration is the foundation for the future "UNITED PARTY OF AMERICA" in order to explain his deliberant and antagonic position against any Dictator and Tyrant Leader from this world. [Prophecy spoken by Ezra Taft Benson. Interpretation
In regards to the first prophecy it is my personal understanding since 1987 when I read the book "Prophecy, Key to the Future" that:
1. When "the two parties go to war," is that there will be a U.S. national political crisis within the boundaries of this nation. In other words, another Civil War.
2. When "the U.S. spend her strength," is that the U.S. will erroneously interfer in foreign lands waisting her strength in all areas, militarily, economically, morally, spiritually, etc.
3. When "the people of the U.S. will unite and swear by the blood of their forefathers, that the land shall not be divided," is that the U.S. will start World War III this time. In other words they will play the aggresive role now, contrary to the laws of God and the nature of why U.S. became involved in W.W. I and W.W.II for defensive reasons.
4. When "one half of the U.S. army will give up," is that literally the superior military strength of this nation will be defeated and humiliated. And
5. When "the boys from the mountains will rush forth in time to save the American...from defeat and ruin," is that the Elders of Israel or from Zion, whether black or white, Nephites or Lamanites, U.S. Americans or Latin Americans or an immigrant from any origin, as long as they love this country and have the desire to defend her, that they will save the "U.S. CONSTITUTION" from being torn apart by the enemy of our Liberty and Democracy, whether that enemy is a U.S. Leader, a U.N. Leader or any other enemy of the U.S. Constitution is a question.
In regards to the second prophecy, it became an official understanding of U.N.I.T.E.D. in 1987, that:
1. On another occasion Brigham Young described the coming internal wars and taught that those who will not take up the sword against their neighbor must flee to the mountains. It was President Young's teaching, also, that the western mountains were especifically prepared by God to serve as a shelter for the Saints:
"It will be the same with other dominations of professing Christians, and it will be Christian against Christian, and man against man, and those who will not take up the sword against their neighbors, must flee to Zion. We are blessed in these mountains; this is the best place on earth for the Latter-day Saints. Search for the history of all nations and every geographical position on the face of the earth, and you cannot find another situation so well adapted for the Saints as are these mountains. Here is the place in which the Lord designed to hide His people...It has been designed, for many generations, to hide up the Saints in the last days, until the indignation of the Almighty be over. His wrath will be poured out upon the nations of the earth."
[Orson Pratt also taught that although the Saints would previously have been blessed by God and enabled to spread through out the land, that in the time of the Lord's judgements the place of safety would be in the heart of the American Continent:]*
"The hand of the Lord will be over us to sustain us, and we will spread forth. He will multiply us in the land; He will make us a great people, and strengthen our borders, and send forth the missionaries of this people to the four quarters of the earth to publish peace and glad tidings of great joy and proclaim that there is still a place left in the heart of the American continent where there are peace and safety and refuge from the storms, desolations and tribulations coming upon the wicked."
[The great influx of people into the area will be a source of growth to the Latter-day Saints in the West. Several prophecies deal with this growth, although it cannot be determined if they are indicative of the period during the internal wars or afterward. A prophecy attributed to Brigham Young asserts that:]*
"The day will come when there will be large places of manufacture and storage constructed West of the Jordan River and there will be over three millions of people living there and Jordan River will practically run through the center of Salt Lake City."
[The Prophet Joseph Smith said in 1839 that there would be Stakes here and there but when wars come. the Saints will have to flee to Zion. He commented that the time is soon coming when no man will have any peace but in Zion and her stakes, and it appears that this is a reference to the stakes located near the center of the Church in the west, as is indicated by the statements cited above. He then told of the Saints who will be followed by mobs from city to city. The above statements seem to indicate that these Saints will not be located in the mountains, but will be the Saints who remained in outlying areas. This is the Prophet's statement:]*
"...Wars are at hand; we must not delay; but are not required to sacrifice. We ought to have the building up of Zion as our greatest object. When wars come, we shall have to flee to Zion. The cry is to make haste. ...The time is soon coming when no man will have any peace but in Zion and her stakes... These things are at our doors. They will follow the Saints of God from city to city."
[Millions of Gentiles also are expected to gather to the West at this time to escape the warfare which is to rage throughout the rest of the nation and other nations of the world. Orson Pratt said that at this time other governments would br crumbling, and gave this description of the coming of Gentile peoples to the West from foreign lands:]*
"The following stream is one that runs continually; and the Gentiles will, in that day, come to us as a following stream, and we shall have to set our gates open continually, they will come as clouds and as doves in large flocks. Do you suppose that the Gentiles are going to be ignorant of what is taking place? 'Now this will not be the case, they will perfectly understand what is taking place.' The people will see that the hand of God is over this people; they will see that He is in our midst, and that He is our watch-tower, that He is our shield and our defense, and therefore, they will say, 'Let us go up and put our riches in Zion, for there is no safety in our own nations.' Those nations are trembling and tottering and will eventually crumble to ruin, and those men of wealth will come here, not to be baptized, but many of them will come that have never heard the servants of God; but they will hear that peace and health dwell among us, and that our officers are all peace officers, and our tax-gatherers men of righteousness."
[George Q. Cannon also raised his voice to explain that when strife came, men would have to "flee to the Mormons" for safety:]*
"I expect to see the day when the Latter-day Saints will be the people TO MAINTAIN CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT on this land. Men everywhere should know that WE BELIEVE IN CONSTITUTIONAL PRINCIPLES, and that we expect that it will be our destiny to maintain them. That the prediction will be fulfilled that was made forty-four years ago the seventh of las March, wherein God said to Joseph Smith - 'Ye hear of wars in foreign lands; but behold I say unto you, they are nigh, even at your doors, and not many years hence ye shall hear of wars in your lands;' but the revelation goes on to say that the day will come among the wicked, that every man that will not take his sword against his neighbor, must needs flee unto Zion for safety. A portion of that revelation has been fulfilled, the remainder will be. The causes are in operation to bring it about. We are not alone in the thought that the republic is drifting steadily in that direction; that we are leaving the old constitutional landmarks, and that the time is not far distant when there will be trouble in consequence of it, when there will be civil broils and strife; and to escape them, we believe, men will be compelled to flee to the 'Mormons,' despised as they are now."
[It is logical that such a period, when no food can be imported and when the population in central areas will have undergone great increases in only a short period, there will be great danger from famine, lack of housing and sanitation preparations, etc. The Prophet Joseph, while telling of the influx of the Gentiles to the western communities during the internal wars, warned:]*

Prime Minister Gordon Brown will today set out a five-point plan to create a "stronger and more just" world order in the wake of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.November 11, 2008Mr Brown will call on fellow world leaders to use the current worldwide economic downturn as an opportunity to thoroughly reform international financial institutions and create a new "truly global society" with Britain, the US and Europe providing leadership.
His call comes ahead of an emergency summit of world leaders and finance ministers from 20 major countries, the G20, in Washington next weekend.
Mr Brown will say that the Washington meeting must establish a consensus on a new Bretton Woods-style framework for the international financial system, featuring a reformed International Monetary Fund which will act as a global early-warning system for financial problems.
The original Bretton Woods agreements, signed in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire in 1944, established post-war international monetary protocols governing trade, banking and other financial relations among nations, including fixed exchange rates and the IMF.
Mr Brown's plan for strengthening the global economy 60 years later involves recapitalisation of banks to permit the resumption of normal lending to households and businesses, better international co-ordination of fiscal and monetary policy and a new IMF fund to help struggling economies and stop financial problems spreading between nations.
He also wants agreement on a world trade deal and reform of the international financial system based on principles of "transparency, integrity, responsibility, sound banking practice and global governance with co-ordination across borders".
As Britain moves into a painful recession Mr Brown has staked his own leadership on helping to find a way out of the global crisis.
In a speech to City financiers at the annual Lord Mayor's banquet in London he will say: "The British Government will begin to begin a new Bretton Woods with a new IMF that offers, by its surveillance of every economy, an early warning system and a crisis prevention mechanism for the whole world.
"The alliance between Britain and the US, and more broadly between Europe and the US, can and must provide leadership, not in order to make the rules ourselves, but to lead the global effort to build a stronger and more just international order.
"My message is that we must be internationalist not protectionist, interventionist not neutral, progressive not reactive and forward-looking not frozen by events. We can seize the moment and in doing so build a truly global society."
Mr Brown has already discussed IMF reforms with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel and has called on countries including China and the oil-rich Gulf states to fund the bulk of an increase in the IMF's bailout pot.
The Prime Minister wants the markets to be subjected to morality and ordinary people's interests are put first.
He believes that in electing Barack Obama, US voters have showed their belief in a "progressive" agenda of government intervention to help families and businesses through the current crisis.
He will say: "Uniquely in this global age, it is now in our power to come together so that 2008 is remembered not just for the failure of a financial crash that engulfed the world but for the resilience and optimism with which we faced the storm, endured it and prevailed."
However, the head of the IMF played down expectations of a new Bretton Woods system ahead of the G20 summit.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the IMF's managing director, said: "Expectations should not be oversold. Things are not going to change overnight. Bretton Woods took two years to prepare. A lot of people are talking about Bretton Woods II. The words sound nice but we are not going to create a new international treaty."
The European Union has called for an overhaul of the IMF with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, whose country holds the EU's rotating presidency, saying: "We want to change the rules of the game".
The US, however, has been more lukewarm on the possibility of radical change.
President-elect Barack Obama is being embraced worldwide as a symbol of a new beginning for international relations.Barack Obama's election on Tuesday set off international celebrations and ignited a fervor for the United States that has been unseen since the days immediately following the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.
To some observers, the international reaction has elevated America's president-elect to an unparalleled post: president of the world.
In Kenya, where Obama's father was born, a national holiday was declared on Thursday. In Indonesia, children danced at the school Obama attended when he was a young boy, embracing him as much for what he represents abroad as for the policies he advocates at home.
"People from all over Africa, especially in Kenya, where this is a holiday, are feeling that the most powerful person in the world does not have to be a white guy. That's a huge breakthrough for the United States and for humanity," said Walter Russell Mead, the Henry A. Kissinger senior fellow for U.S. Foreign Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations.
"This is the fall of the Berlin Wall times ten," Rama Yade, France's junior minister for human rights, told French radio. "On this morning, we all want to be American, so we can take a bite of this dream unfolding before our eyes."
America's popularity abroad waned dramatically during the Bush administration, and some voters expressed hopes that in electing Obama, they could restore the country's image. The wave of good feelings since Tuesday night suggests that even before taking office, Obama has made substantial inroads.
"This may be the beginning of a new world. It marks the end of old elites and opens the door for new approaches worldwide," an Israeli man in his mid-50s said in Tel Aviv.
Foreign observers, who paid rapt attention during the long election season, are taking a personal stake in the outcome of a vote a world away. Expectations are high for the 47-year-old Obama, who will take over on January 20 amid a financial collapse and who will preside over two wars on his first day in office.
"The standing of everybody in the world is going to be affected by what President Obama does or doesn't do," said Mead, noting that all eyes will be looking to the new president for a way out of the global financial crisis.
In the Muslim world, the response has been mixed. A journalist with a pan-Arab news channel told FOX News that on election night, workers were going around the newsroom congratulating each other, as if Obama were their president-elect.
Iraqis have expressed skepticism that any rapid changes will come as a result of the election, but many see their fates ineluctably tied to Obama's foreign policy. "By God, the new American President Obama has promised to pull the troops out. This is in the best interest of the Iraqi people," said one Baghdadi.
Arab heads of state have been more circumspect, waiting to see whether Obama's Mideast policy will depart significantly from that of the Bush administration, and some newspapers in the Arab world have openly announced their distrust of the president-elect.
"There is no significant difference between Obama and McCain. They disagree only on the means to achieve America's chief goal, which is to rule for another hundred years," said an editorial in the Saudi daily Al-Watan, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute, which monitors the Arab press.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad congratulated Obama Thursday for his win -- the first time an Iranian leader has welcomed an incoming president since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. And some Iranians, speaking to FOX News, said they were excited by the prospect of the coming administration.
"I want to congratulate you on Barack Obama's victory that really turned a new chapter in the world's history -- that an African-American man, decent and intelligent, became president of the world," one Iranian said.
"This was done in America. Your nation has the credit for it."
Not all observers expect this world embrace to be long-lasting. "I think overseas, as at home, opinion over the longer term will depend on what he actually does," said John Bolton, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Obama was issued an early challenge Wednesday, as Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered the deployment of short-range missiles near his country's border with Poland.
"Those who have issues with us are certainly not giving him a honeymoon," Bolton said of Russia's action, which may have been intended to send a cold word of welcome to Obama and to test his resolve.
Russian citizens, too, have been wary in their evaluation of the next president.
"I don't think he can really become the world political leader," said Tatyana Solomonova, a real estate agent in Moscow. "The fact that he's black can be an obstacle -- there's still a lot of racism in the world, in Europe and Russia too. I think he can take a leading role in the Western hemisphere, but not in this part of the world."
In Moscow Thursday, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who has a history of controversial remarks, was asked by a reporter about the prospect for U.S.-Russian relations after Berlusconi met with Medvedev.
Berlusconi responded by saying that the relative youth of Medvedev, 43, and Obama should make it easier for Moscow and Washington to work together.
Then he said, smiling: "I told the president that [Obama] has everything needed in order to reach deals with him: he's young, handsome and even tanned."
Italian news agencies said Berlusconi later defended his remark, calling the statement "a great compliment."
"Why are they taking it as something negative? ... If they have the vice of not having a sense of humor, worse for them," the ANSA news agency quoted him as saying.
But Italy's only black lawmaker, Jean-Leonard Touadi, called the comment embarrassing.
"In the United States, a joke like that wouldn't just be politically incorrect, but a great offense to this amazing example of integration, which it seems the Italian premier should take as an example," Touadi said.
For good or ill, all eyes are now on Obama.
"Not everybody is going to get what they want, but this is a moment of hope," said Mead, who added that Obama was sure to fall short of some expectations.
"If you look at Jesus Christ, he walked on water and fed the 5,000 and he ended up getting crucified, so I think it's not unlikely that President-elect Obama is gonna disappoint some people also."
January 20, 2003 Kim Jong Il of North Korea has told the United States he has weapons of mass destruction and is not afraid to use them. Our response: we offer him economic aid if he dismantles his weapons. Saddam Hussain of Iraq says he has no such weapons, and allows UN inspectors to roam where they will to prove it. None have yet been found. Our response: mass even more troops at his borders, waiting for the signal to attack.
One might ask why Kim Jong Il is being treated cordially and Saddam is being threatened. The answer just might be that North Korea REALLY DOES have weapons of mass destruction that can harm us! All Saddam has are rusted weaponry we gave him twenty years ago to fight Iran with! The bottom line is that we are about to attack Iraq because WE KNOW ALREADY it has no weapons that can seriously hurt us, and our government thinks fighting the Iraqis will be like a turkey shoot. This is the thinking of a schoolyard bully, picking on those he knows are weaker. Instead of taking the victim's lunch money, however, we would be taking his oil. Iraq has the second largest oil reserves in the world, to its misfortune. Desperately poor North Korea has no such economic attraction for us. Because we have massed so many troops in Kuwait, it is only a matter of time before we use them. The results will be to divide the people of our country and cause other nations to unite against us, perceiving us to be a threat to world peace. On this Martin Luther King Day, let us pray with our souls and our feet. Let's tell the powers that be that an America which flaunts international law for its own gain is not the nation we were raised to love. I personally pray that God places a flaming sword in the path of our leaders, and prevent this indefensible war from happening.
February 10, 2003 President Bush and other proponents of an invasion of Iraq keep telling us that part of the job is to overthrow authoritarianism and establish a people's democracy there. This is an outright lie.
If genuine democracy was to be established in Iraq, it would not be seen as in our national interest. This is because the majority of Iraqis are Shi'ite Moslems, who have a kinship with Iran, another "Axis of Evil" nation. Furthermore, it would involve giving the Kurdish people of the north their own independent state, which would make our ally Turkey nervous. What Bush really wants to do is set up a puppet government from the remnants of the Iraqi military which will assure population control while allowing us unlimited access to its oil. This will solve the painful problems of unpredictability in the nation and the need to nation-build. Nation building is something our government is loathe to do. Look at how we have handled Afghanistan! War lords raise havoc again in the nation as they did before the Taliban, and we are doing next to nothing to reshape the society there. By the way, we don't hear about "Bin Laden-Wanted Dead or Alive" anymore. The goal of a democratic Iraq is just one more lie among many President Bush has given us as he tries to sell us this war. Put it alongside the previous lies about Iraq's aluminum tubes for a nuclear weapons program and ties between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda. Only average citizens putting pressure on our government will stop it from its lust for an unecessary war.
